1. How does the main character, Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace, compare to other main characters( Ivan Martin and Derrick Thompson) in the first two film we saw?
Horsemouth had some similarities with both of the main characters of the other films. With Derrick, he share the tittle of being the hero of their own community, both fight for what they believe it’s correct against the established power, one against the gangs and the other against the mafia. In the other hand, with Ivan he share some similarities in his way to be, they're both very charismatic and both are related with the music industry, one as a singer and the other as a drummer.
2. Did you like or dislike the film? Why/Why not?
I didn’t like the movie. Maybe the film was good but It couldn’t catch my attention. In first place the way that the characters spoke was very difficult to understand and made the history quite odd for me. I also found the whole plot very confusing, even when I understand the majority of the film, it was parts that were weird.
Even when I didn’t like the film I think the movie had some good things like the ending and also the parts when the main character broke the fourth wall and spoke with the audience.
3. In conclusion to our Jamaican film unit, with was your favorite film of all 3? Why?
If I had to choose the better one I would probably pick Ghett’a Life, but my personal favorite was The Harder They Come, and as I said before the worst film of the unit was definitely Rockers.
I just like The Harder They Come because I like Ivan as character and how he evolved during the film. He was really charismatic, you can hate him or love him but you can’t be indifferent to him. I also liked Ghett’a Life because the movie itself portrayed in a better way the social and political scenario of Jamaica.
